Hillier Runs 19th in Prestigious Kings Royal
ROSSBURG, OH (July 14) – World of Outlaws Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year contender Chad Hillier
drove the #5C DIRT Inc. Maxim into 19th place in his first Kings
Royal by Crown Royal Saturday at Eldora Speedway.
Hillier battled
defending All-Stars Circuit of Champions titleist
Greg Wilson for most of the 40-lap “A” Feature, and finished .329 seconds
behind Dirt Cup champion Brandon Wimmer.
“We ran pretty similar
to the way we did Friday, but we were better in the feature than we were
the first night,” Hillier said. “It was a really even racetrack. We ran
with Greg Wilson quite a bit, but he was a little better than I was and got
away from us at the end. On the last restart, we had (Craig) Dollansky and (Jason) Solwold
behind us. They showed their noses and I let them go around me, and I ran
the bottom of the track for the rest of the race. We were just as good on
the bottom as we were up by the fence, and we actually ended up passing Dollansky and Jason back by running the bottom.”
Hillier, the 32nd-fastest
qualifier in the 51-car field, finished fourth in the Second Heat Race and
third in the “B” Feature to qualify for the 11th-row-inside
starting position the $50,000-to-win main event.
“It wasn’t spectacular,
but it was good to get into the feature in my first Kings Royal,” Hillier
said. “It has a different format and, luckily, we ran well enough in the
heat race to start on the front row of the ‘B.’ I chased Steve (Kinser) for the whole race, and we just held our own to
get into the feature. On the last restart, there was a lapped car between
Steve and me. I went down low and he took away my line and that allowed
Danny (Lasoski) to get by me. Second or third, we
still made it with a tough group of cars.”
A tough week looms
ahead as DIRT Inc. and the World of Outlaws return to battle the tough
Pennsylvania Posse in Tuesday’s Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup at Lernerville Speedway and the Cleveland Brothers Summer
Nationals, which is scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Williams
Grove Speedway.
“We’re excited to go
back to Lernerville,” Hillier said. “We just
barely missed the show there last time, but I feel like we learned quite a
bit and have a good shot at it this time. It’s a good, racy track; a fun
place to race.”
Hillier finished just
.072 seconds behind Zach Chappell in their battle for fourth place in the
“B” Feature at the First Commonwealth Bank Clash at Lernerville
May 15th.
“We have mixed emotions
going back to Williams Grove,” Hillier said. “We had a tough time there
last time (finishing fourth in the “D” Feature both nights), so I’m not
sure I want to go back. The car is running better than it was in May
though, so we expect to improve. We’ve learned from our mistakes, so we
expect to be better there this time.”
