Hillier Runs 10th in ‘B’ Feature at K-C
Raceway
CHILLICOTHE, OH (July 28) – A
disappointing qualifying time had Chad Hillier playing catch-up throughout
Saturday’s World of Outlaws event at K-C Raceway.
The World of Outlaws
Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year contender was
the 27th-fastest qualifier in the 47-car field with an
11.955-second, 112.923-MPH lap around the high-banked, 3/8-mile
oval. Hillier started seventh in the Third Heat Race and finished eighth,
and drove the #5C DIRT Inc. Maxim into 10th place after starting
inside the fifth row in the “B” Feature.
“We just weren’t able
to get going,” Hillier said. “We ran a decent qualifying lap, but it wasn’t
good enough. The car felt good, but there were some things that weren’t
quite right. It was as combination of things: a little bit motor, a little car
and a little bit me. Everything has to work in unison for things to go
well, and it just wasn’t clicking for us.
“We tried really hard
to get into a transfer spot in the heat, but we weren’t able to come off
the bottom very well. We went down there and we were kind of hanging off
the exit. We felt better running the top, but it was so far around we
couldn’t go forward. We lost some spots on the start in the ‘B,’ and we
couldn’t catch up. You only have so many laps to get things done before the
cars get strung out. It was just a frustrating night.”
Hillier and DIRT Inc.
are looking forward to several days off before heading to Charter Raceway
Park (formerly the Raceway at Powercom Park) for
Friday’s and Satuday’s World of Outlaws “SuperClean Summer of Money” finale. The race, which
will be televised on ESPN2
Sunday, will be the team’s final tune-up before sprint car racing’s premier
event: the 47th Annual Knoxville Nationals, scheduled for August
8-11 at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville , IA.
“We’re pretty excited
about running at Beaver Dam,” Hillier said. “It’s a high-banked, 1/3-mile
like Skagit ( Speedway
), so we’re hoping to have a good run there.”
Hillier, who ranks
second in the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year
race, is the only driver to win all three sprint car championships at
Skagit Speedway in Alger , WA
.
