Hillier Anticipates Skagit
Homecoming
ALGER ,
WA (August 23) – The
homecoming football game is the game every school looks forward to each
season. This weekend’s World
of Outlaws sprint car racing event at Skagit Speedway will be Chad
Hillier’s homecoming.
Hillier, a Burlington,
WA, native, is eagerly anticipating Friday’s and Saturday’s races at the
high-banked, 3/10-mile oval where he made history as the only driver to win
championships in all three sprint car divisions. Chad
claimed Skagit ’s sportsman sprint car championship in 1996, the year
after he started racing sprint cars. He won the 360 sprint car title in
1998 and the 410 sprint car championship three years later.
“It feels good to be
going home,” says the driver of the #5c DIRT Inc. Maxim. “This will be the
first time I’ve been home since February. We headed out right after
Sunday’s race so we could have an extra night at home. It’s so pretty out
there, and I can’t wait to see my family and friends. I’m really excited.”
Hillier can’t wait to
race in front of plenty of familiar faces, including Washington-based Car
Owner Dave DeWitt.
“Dave will definitely
be there,” Chad
said. “I can’t thank him enough for giving me this opportunity, and my
family for always supporting me through the years. We will have a lot of
family and friends there to wish us well so, hopefully, we’ll have two good
nights and make the most of it.
“I haven’t been to Skagit in a year, but I’ve raced there quite a bit
before so it’s not going to be a big secret about what we need to do. It
should be a good weekend, and we’re looking forward to it. We don’t get out
here (to the Pacific Northwest ) very often – we’re only out here once a year – so
it’s going to be good.”
Hillier, who ranks 19th
in the World of Outlaws point standings, has recorded 26 top-20 finishes
this season. Last weekend, he finished 11th and 17th
in “A” Features at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton ,
Alberta , Canada
. Just two years removed from working as a crew member for the late Dave
Helm’s Selma Shell racing team, Chad ranks second in the 2007 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year race.
Both of the weekend’s
racing programs will be taped for telecasts on the SPEED Channel. Friday’s
race will air on Sunday, September 2nd, at noon EDT, and
Saturday’s action will be telecast on Sunday, September 9th, at
2 p.m. EDT.
