Hillier Battles Engine Problems at Eldora
ROSSBURG, OH (September
21) – Engine problems in the #5C DIRT Inc. Maxim plagued Kevin Gobrecht
Rookie of the Year contender Chad Hillier Friday when the World of Outlaws
invaded Eldora Speedway.
Hillier’s 13.862-second
qualifying lap was the 36th-fastest in the 47-car field and
forced him to start near the rear of the Fourth Heat Race and “B” Feature.
Tenth-place finishes in each race kept him from qualifying for the “A”
Feature.
“We got here with a new
motor and worked the bugs out, and that put us behind the eight-ball
early,” Chad
said. “The timing slipped early on, and that gave us trouble. The magneto
hold-down broke, so that allowed the timing to move around. We got so far
behind there early; it was tough to make up ground. It was frustrating
chasing the motor all night. If we hadn’t had to do that, we could have
concentrated more on the car.”
The only driver to win
sprint car championships in all three divisions at Skagit Speedway found
the silver lining behind the clouds and is looking forward to Wednesday’s
race at Orange County Fair
Speedway and next weekend’s Williams Grove National Open.
“We worked on the car
and got it better, so we’re hoping to be a lot better off at Middletown ,” Chad
said. “We’ve had better runs at Eldora, but we learned some things. It wasn’t a
great night, but we figured some things out that will help us later on. We
worked with the shocks and some different bar combinations, so we’ll be
better going into the next races. We should be a lot better at Middletown and
Williams Grove.”
