Hillier Dodges Wimmer, Runs
24th at ‘The PAS’
LAKE PERRIS, CA
(October 20) – Chad Hillier steered the #5c DIRT Inc. Maxim clear of
Brandon Wimmer and never recovered in Saturday’s
World of Outlaws’ “A” Feature at Perris Auto Speedway.
The Kevin Gobrecht
Rookie of the Year contender got off to a good start in the 30-lap main
event, but finished 24th after taking himself out of harm’s way.
“We got a little messed
up on the first lap,” Chad
said. “Wimmer bicycled up and almost got into us.
I checked up for him and fell back. We lost a few spots and couldn’t get
back by any of them. All I saw was a top wing coming at me, so I checked
up.
“We started out a
little rough. We were glad to get out of the ‘B,’ but we didn’t get rolling
around there very well in the feature. We were bumper-to-bumper with the
guys we were running with, but we weren’t quite good enough to get by them.”
Hillier’s 103.27-MPH
lap around Lake
Perris ’ semi-banked, .45-mile oval was the 20th-fastest
in the 32-car field and .686 seconds off fast-qualifier Danny Lasoski’s pace. The only driver to win championships in
all three sprint car divisions at Skagit Speedway finished sixth in the
Fourth Heat Race and earned the right to start outside the 10th
row in the “A” Feature with a runner-up run in the “B” Feature.
“The track was pretty
nice all night,” Chad
said. “The top half of the racetrack wasn’t very clean to run in, so we
were stuck running the bottom. The guys (Pete Stephens and Curtis Bye)
worked on the car all night; we just never really got it to run much
better.”
Hillier and his DIRT
Inc. teammates will travel across the country to race in the Outlaws World
Finals at The Dirt Track at Lowes Motor Speedway in Concord, NC,
Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The final race will be televised live on
SPEED starting at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on Saturday, November 3rd.
“I’m excited to go back
down there again,” Chad
said. “We’re running with the late models, so the track should be smoother
than it was earlier this year. It’s the last race of the year and we want
to end it on a good note. It’s a long drive for us, but we’re going to make
the most of it. I know they’re expecting good attendance, so it should be
good.
“I’m looking forward to
my first World of Outlaws Banquet, too. We’ve had a lot of firsts this
year, so we want to end it right.”
