Minter Runs Goodyear Tires in WOW Debut
SPRINGFIELD, MO (June 16) – Although Mother Nature forced Kathryne Minter to change her schedule for the second straight weekend, it gave her the opportunity to race with the O’Reilly Winged Outlaw Warriors for the first time at Springfield Raceway.
Minter planned to test Goodyear tires in American Sprint Car Series races at State Fair Speedway in Oklahoma City Friday and Fast Trax Speedway in Chatham , LA , Saturday. She made her WOW debut instead, with Goodyear tires on every corner of her #13m Concrete Crushing Company J&J except the right rear to conform to WOW rules.
Kathryne ran sixth in the First Heat Race and raced into 14th place from outside the eighth row only to have a flat right rear tire and collision slow her progress. She eventually finished 19th in the 20-lap feature.
“The track was taking rubber, so it was really tough out there,” Kathryne said. “I was controlling the throttle control and the wing – pushing it back to make the car tighter and pushing it forward to make the car looser – but I wasn’t doing it at the right time.
“We were running pretty well in the feature, but the rocks in the track cut a hole in my right rear tire. The tire was going down, but we didn’t know it. The car was running rough, but I thought it was because the track was changing. On the last lap, I got taken out by a guy who ran over my right front. We didn’t know the tire was going down until we came off the track. It was going down slowly, but it was making the car really tight.”
Minter couldn’t have been happier with the way the Goodyear tires performed on the ¼-mile oval.
“It was our first time on Goodyear tires,” Kathryne said. “They were great; they have a lot of grip. We’re going to run Goodyears in ASCS races, too. Their rules say you have to run a Hoosier on the right rear, but we’ll have Goodyears everywhere else on the car.”
The personable Minter was definitely an attraction off the track at Springfield Raceway. As fans clamored around her, she signed approximately 200 autographs sold more T-shirts than any other driver at the racetrack.
Kathryne was in the pit area at 81 Speedway for Sunday’s O'Reilly NCRA Sprint Car Series race presented by ICM/Ethanol to benefit the Steve King Foundation when it was postponed due to inclement weather. The race has rescheduled for July 3rd.
