Minter Leads ASCS Gulf South Rookie Race

BAYTOWN, TX (June 23) – Kathryne Minter’s 14th-place finish in Friday’s American Sprint Car Series Coastal Region Versus Gulf South “A” Feature at Motorama Speedway pushed her into first place in the ASCS Gulf South Rookie of the Year point standings. “It’s great to be leading the rookie points,” said Kathryne, who also ranks 13th in the ASCS Gulf South point standings. “Earning that award is one of my goals this year.” Minter is also pleased to have 2005 ASCS Sooner Region champion Sean McClelland join Kathryne Minter Racing. “It’s great having Sean join our team,” Kathryne said. “He’s going to take some time off from racing so he can work on racecars. ‘Slim Jim’ (Osborn, Minter’s crew chief) worked on Sean’s car when he won the ASCS Sooner Region championship two years ago. Sean has learned a lot from Jim, so working with him should be a smooth transition because Jim and I work so well together. Sean is going to fly down Wednesday and get the car ready and we’re going to test it that night at Cowtown Speedway.” McClelland also finished second in the 2004 ASCS Sooner Region point standings with Osborn as his crew chief. Osborn worked with NASCAR Nextel Cup star Dave Blaney when he raced with the World of Outlaws in the 1990s. “We’re excited about adding Sean to our team,” Kathryne’s father and team owner, Mike Minter, said. “Sean is really excited about the change from successful driver to future championship crew chief. We’re hoping that Sean and Kathryne work as well together as ‘Slim’ and she have. “I’m really encouraged about her progress lately. I know the finish doesn’t look like it, but she had a top-five car in Friday’s heat race and looked even better in the ‘B.’ The fans in the stands were on their feet cheering for her; I could hear them from the pits.” Kathryne is looking forward to racing in Saturday’s ASCS Sooner Region race at Cowtown Speedway. “Cowtown is my home track,” Kathryne said. “I hope to run well there Saturday. People came up to me after the race at Motorama and told me I was racing like a totally different driver. They said I had a completely different driving style and had better control of the car … and it’s all because of what Jim taught me recently. I would not have known how to race like that if he hadn’t explained it to me like he did.” More information about Minter, including her “Kat’s Corner” and “Off-Track With Kathryne” columns, can be found on her website at www.mint13.com. Fans can also check out Kathryne’s merchandise and request a free autographed hero card on her site. Kathryne Minter Racing invites fans to visit the team’s trailer after the races.
