Minter Battles to 14th-Place Finish at Cowtown Speedway
KENNEDALE, TX (August 25) –
Kathryne Minter’s #13m Concrete Crushing Company J&J was clearly one of
the fastest cars at Cowtown Speedway Saturday. At
times, she passed cars at will, but obstacles beyond her control determined
her destiny.
Despite being forced into the wall
during the opening lap and bouncing through a gigantic rut in the second
corner midway through the 25-lap “A” Feature, the leader in the American
Sprint Car Series Gulf South Rookie of the Year race finished in 14th
place.
“My car was really fast,” said
Kathryne, who ran third in the Second Heat Race. “Mike (Leal, the team’s
crew chief) gave me a good car. I passed some cars while I was figuring out
where I needed to run, then I thought my right
rear (tire) went flat because it started handling differently. I think I
might have broken a shock or a bar when that guy put me in the wall on the
first lap.
“I went low and passed some cars
down there. I just drove in a little deeper than they did. But I hit the
big rut in (turn) two and went bouncing and the car completely changed
after that. I hope we have a better time next weekend.”
Minter, who ranks 14th
in the point standings, will return to ASCS Gulf South competition Friday
at Heart O’ Texas
Speedway in Waco , TX , and Saturday at her favorite racetrack –
Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite , TX
.
