Minter to Run ASCSoT Events at Edwards’ Tracks

MESQUITE , TX (July 18) – Kathryne Minter has never been shy when discussing her favorite racetrack, Devil’s Bowl Speedway. She will race in Thursday’s American Sprint Car Series on Tour event at the legendary half-mile oval, then at two more facilities promoted by Lanny Edwards and his family – State Fair Speedway in Oklahoma City and Lawton Speedway – Friday and Saturday.

“I’m excited and ready to go,” Kathryne said Wednesday. “Hopefully, when we go to the Devil’s Bowl, we’ll run well. We’ve been really fast the last few weekends. I’m really looking forward to racing at the Devil’s Bowl again. I don’t know how many cars will be there since it’s a Thursday race, but I’m sure there will be plenty of competition.

“I’ve never raced at State Fair. We were rained out there the last time we went (in mid-June), but I’ve heard it’s really nice. I’ve never raced at Lawton , either. It’s a high-banked, quarter-mile track, so I figure it’s a lot like Cowtown ( Speedway ).

Minter, who ranks 24th in the ASCSoT standings, expects to climb higher in the points race this weekend.

“You get 75 points just for showing up,” Kathryne said. “Depending on how many drivers who are in front of me race, I could move up a few spots. I can really gain a lot of national points running these three races but, mainly, I just want to run well.”

Minter has been resting after crashing in a July 7th ASCS Sooner Division race at Cowtown Speedway.

“I’m still a little sore, but that’s probably because I’ve been working harder this week,” Kathryne said. “I didn’t do much last week, but I’ll be ready to race this weekend.”

Sean McClelland, the team’s crew chief and the 2005 ASCS Sooner Division champion, should be back with the team after attending his wife’s grandmother’s funeral earlier this month.

“I think Sean will be back for the Oklahoma races,” Kathryne said. “He and I were working really well together before he left to take care of family matters.”
