‘TK’ Runs Second, Third in Cotton Classic
HANFORD, CA (November 10) – A week
removed from one of the most heartbreaking experiences of his career, Tim
Kaeding returned to his rightful place – up front – in the Cotton Classic
at Kings Speedway.
“TK” was leading the 12th
Annual Budweiser Oval Nationals last weekend at Perris Auto Speedway when a
broken injector spring caused him to crash. There was no such bad luck
Saturday as the 2002 Cotton Classic champion drove the #10 Tom Rolfe Trucking Maxim into the runner-up spot in the 410
“A” Feature and finished third in the 360 main event at the Cotton Classic.
“It was a good night of racing,”
Tim said. “Tom (Rolfe) and my teammates were
happy, and everything rolled into the trailer in one piece. It was nice to
go through the night and not have something stupid happen.”
Starting outside the second row,
Kaeding chased winner Jonathan Allard for many of the 30 laps in the 410
race.
“We were really good in the 410
car; we just couldn’t get through one and two like we needed to. We’d catch
Jonathan in three and four, but then he would gain everything back. We were
a little bit tighter than he was, so he was able to beat us through one and
two. I got around Ronnie Day on a restart for second and we gave Jonathan a
good run for the money, but just came up a little bit short. It was just
one of those nights when we had a second-place car.
“There wasn’t much passing; it was
pretty much follow-the-leader all night. We just ran the bottom in one and
two and the top in three and four.”
Kaeding followed Jason Meyers and
Shane Stewart under the checkered flag after starting outside the third row
in the 360 race.
“We had a brand new Don Ott 360 motor and it ran really well,” Tim said. “We
hope we can make it run even better next weekend at the Trophy Cup so we
can get the two extra spots we needed.”
