SCHATZ RACES SNAP-ON SPRINTER
TO ANOTHER WIN
PRINCETON, MN (October 6) - Donny Schatz began a new relationship in 2007
with Snap-on Tools and Saturday, he put an exclamation point on the
partnership by picking up the World of Outlaws feature win in the Snap-0n
Tools No. 15 J&J at the Polydome Princeton
National.
"What a great way to put a cap on our Snap-on program," said
Schatz, following his 18th WoO win of the season.
"We started with a win in the Snap-on car at Knoxville back in April and tonight was our last night in it and we finished here in victory
lane.
"They've been great marketing partners. Their tools are second to
none. Paul Johnson is here tonight and he really helped make this deal
happen. I know we had more than 400 Snap-on representatives,
franchisees and customers here tonight, and this was the best way we could
thank them... by winning the race."
Schatz opened the program by qualifying the red and black Snap-on Tools schemed No. 15 J&J with Shaver-built Chevrolet power
10th in the field of 38 cars. A second heat race victory put him in
the Crane Cams Dash where he started sixth. In the eight-lap Dash,
Schatz moved up to third, which is where he started the 40-lap
"A" feature.
During the early going of the feature, Schatz patiently worked his way
around the high-banked, quarter-mile dirt oval. He followed Chad Blonde and
Justin Henderson for the opening 15 laps before taking second from Henderson.
A caution flag stopped the action on lap 21 and several more restart
attempts where made before Schatz had his opportunity to catch
Blonde. Finally on lap 28, Blonde jumped the cushion, giving Schatz
the opening he needed to take the lead. Not long after Blonde ultimately
stopped to once again slow the action. Following the restart
with 12 laps remaining, Schatz rolled on and withstood a few more restarts
to score the win.
"The race was a pretty tough struggle,"
admitted Schatz, who won four races in nine starts behind the wheel
of the Snap-on schemed car. "Chad Blonde was setting a pretty
good pace, but I knew we just had to keep working on him. He had a problem
and we took advantage of it. We lost our brakes early in the race and I
really had to finesse the car. The guys gave me a great car tonight
and we just hope to continue winning races from here on out."
The victory was his 69th career World of Outlaws "A" feature
moving him to within one of current NASCAR racer Dave Blaney,
who ranks sixth on the all-time win list.
Schatz and the Global ParkerStore sponsored team
continue to lead the 2007 WoO standings and will
return to action next Saturday in Tulare,
CA with only five nights of
action remaining.
