Quotes from Paul McMahan, driver
of the No. 20 TSR/Bass Pro Shops/Eagle:
You began your career racing on the West Coast. Are you looking forward to
competing at any one track this week more so than the others?
“Growing
up in California , Calistoga Speedway was just the place every driver
wanted to win at. The guys who were running that track when I was a kid –
including my brother, Bobby McMahan, and several other high-profile California drivers
who won there – made Calistoga
a legend. In 1995, when I was still running with the NARC Series, I won
three of four races there that season. Bobby Gerould
and Jim Allen nicknamed Calistoga
‘Paulyworld’ that season. It was an awesome
feeling to know that I had put my name in the books with some of the best
in the business. As I got more into the World of Outlaws Series, I continued
to have success at Calistoga.
It would be pretty cool to revisit the track with a win in the Bass Pro
Shops car for TSR this week.”
As you head into the final two months of the 2007 racing season,
what will the team’s goals shift to in terms of championship standings and
next season?
“We’re
focused on winning as many races as possible before the end of the season.
That’s the game plan as we move forward. We’re also using this time to
build a foundation for 2008. We started the year a little on the rough end
of things, but we’ve moved up and we’re in contention to finish in the
top-six in the point standings. If we can get a few more wins, I think
we’ll definitely be able to pick up a few more positions in the
championship. We’re tied for sixth on the win list with two at this point
and there are a lot of really good teams that haven’t won a race, yet. It’s
been a really tough season, especially with so many good teams competing
with the series full-time. I think it’s been a great year for the fans.
They’ve gotten to see a lot of really good racing. As we get into the final
two months, we’re going to really work on putting a few more marks in the
win column.”
