McMahan Begin Midwestern Tour
With the World of Outlaws Sprint Series
INDIANAPOLIS
(Sept. 12, 2007) – With the warm breezes of California far behind them, the competitors of
the World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint Series are
already marching on as they continue the race to the championship. For Paul
McMahan and the No. 20 Tony
Stewart Racing (TSR)/Bass Pro Shops/Eagle team, this week’s schedule
will provide a chance to tackle one new venue and two with familiar
surroundings.
First
up for the week is Wednesday’s single-day event at the Clay County
Fairgrounds in Spencer , Iowa .
McMahan and the WoO will make their first-ever
appearances at the 3/8-mile facility as they return to the state for the
first time since mid-August.
McMahan
and the WoO then move on to Heartland Park Topeka
( Kan.
) for a one-day stop on Friday. In McMahan’s last appearance at the
3/8-mile track on June 16, 2001, he finished fifth in the A-main.
Danny Lasoski won the event.
Wrapping
up the three-race stretch to the tune of more than 2,600 miles of drive
time, the No. 20 TSR/Bass Pro Shops/Eagle team will make its last stop of
the week on Sunday at Charter Raceway Park (CRP) in Beaver Dam, Wis. The event will serve as a make-up
for the race on Aug. 4 that was postponed due to rain. In McMahan’s last
appearance on the 1/3-mile oval on Aug. 3, 2007, he earned a ninth-place
finish.
In
61 WoO starts this season, McMahan has earned two
wins, 11 top-five finishes, 31 top-10s and seven quick time awards. He
enters this week’s events ranked eighth in the WoO
Sprint Series championship standings with 7,964 points.
Grandstand
gates will open at the Clay County Fairgrounds on Wednesday at 4 p.m. CDT.
Hot laps are set to begin at 6 p.m. The official Web site of the Clay

Friday, pit gates at Heartland Park Topeka will open at 2 p.m. CDT . The grandstands will open at 4 p.m., with hot laps

CRP
will open pit and grandstand gates on Sunday at 2 p.m. CDT
. Racing is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. The official Web site of

this year, with the next series broadcast on SPEED set for Sunday at 1 p.m.

What’s it like to head to a track, such as the Clay County
Fairgrounds, when you’ve never competed at the facility?
“You
know, we’ll be going into this event blind. But, so will all of the other
teams. When you compete with a traveling series such as the World of
Outlaws, you get accustomed to visiting many new tracks along the way. But,
as you get into a rhythm on the tour, you remember things you’ve learned at
different tracks and begin to apply them at similar facilities. This season
has been a great one for us as a series. We’ve had an opportunity to visit
many new race tracks and expand into different areas. We’re really looking
forward to going to Clay County this week and
hopefully we’ll put on a good show for the fans.”
You’ve run well at Heartland
Topeka Park
in the past. After a five-year hiatus, are you looking forward to returning
to the track on Friday?
“ Heartland
Park is a really nice facility. It was built during the
time when several of the larger dirt tracks were being built around the
country. It’s got a great, fan-friendly facility and the track itself is
really nice. You can pass in several different spots and it always seems to
give the fans and the competitors some great racing. I ran fifth in my last
race there and we’re hoping to put Bass Pro Shops and Chevy in victory lane
there on Friday night.”
Charter Raceway
Park is a racy, 1/3-mile track. What’s the trick to
being fast at CRP?
“You
have to have the car right, plain and simple. Charter Raceway is a track
that demands your full attention. It’s an extremely racy little bullring
and you really have to keep up with it. There’s not really a trick, per se,
to being fast at Charter. It’s just old-fashioned, heads-up racing. I
really enjoy racing on the smaller tracks and I am really looking forward
to running at Charter again this Sunday.”
