Closing Bell
Tony Stewart Racing’s McMahan Seeks Victory
in
World of Outlaws Sprint Series Finale
INDIANAPOLIS (Oct. 30, 2007) – Much like the
sounding bell that officially closes each day for the New York Stock
Exchange, Tony Stewart Racing’s (TSR) Paul McMahan is
seeking to close a chapter of his racing career by making a little noise of
his own in the World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint
Series finale this weekend at The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway
in Charlotte, N.C.
With the three-day WoO World
Finals event scheduled to take place this Thursday through Saturday,
McMahan is gunning to put the No. 20 TSR/Bass Pro Shops/Eagle back in
victory lane for the third time this season. McMahan’s last appearance at
the 4/10-mile speedway in May was bittersweet as he earned a runner-up
finish to future TSR driver Donny Schatz. McMahan led 26 of 30 laps in the
A-main only to see Schatz pass in traffic on lap 27 to take the checkered
flag.
In 72 starts this season, McMahan has earned two victories,
eight fast time awards, 14 top-five finishes and 38 top-10s in WoO Sprint Series competition. He is ranked eighth in
the WoO championship standings with 9,324
points. This weekend’s WoO World Finals
will also mark McMahan’s final three races behind the wheel of the No. 20
TSR/Bass Pro Shops/Eagle entry, as earlier this year, McMahan and TSR
agreed to part ways upon conclusion of the 2007 season.
Pit gates will open daily for the WoO
World Finals at 12 p.m. EDT. Grandstands will open at 4 p.m., with hot laps beginning at 6 p.m. Racing is set to
begin each night at 7 p.m. To purchase tickets for the event, log on to the
track’s official Web site at www.lowesmotorspeedway.com
or call 1-800-455-3267.
Race fans can listen to all the action from this weekend

cybercast, as well as on the DIRT Radio Network. Visit www.DIRTVision.com for more

The WoO Sprint Series also
returned to television this year, with the series’ next broadcast scheduled
for Nov. 3 on SPEED. Live action from the Nov. 3 WoO
World Finals at The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway
in Concord, N.C., will be aired from 8 – 11 p.m. EDT. A total of 20 races
will be televised either on SPEED or ESPN2 this year,
including the Race to the Championships on SPEED. For a complete television

Quotes from Paul
McMahan, driver of the No. 20 TSR/Bass Pro Shops/Eagle:
Having led all but three laps of the WoO Sprint Series A-main at The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s
Motor Speedway
in May do you feel that the track owes you a bit as you head into this
weekend’s finale?
“A track never owes you anything and The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s
Motor Speedway certainly doesn’t owe me a win. We’ll have to
earn it just like anyone else. In May, we had a great car and came out and
led a lot of laps. Unfortunately, I picked the wrong line at the wrong time
and it cost me a trip to the winner’s circle. Had I chosen another line we
would have been celebrating. What’s done is done and this weekend we’re
going to focused on these three races rather than what could have been.
We’ve traditionally run well at this track and I believe we’re going to be
able to do so again. Putting Bass Pro Shops and Chevrolet back
in the winner’s circle would be a great way to end our years together.”
This will be the first time that the WoO Sprint Series will compete at the same facility
alongside the WoO Late Model Series. How will the
high number of cars affect the track conditions over the course of the
weekend?
“It’s going to be really cool for both the fans and the
World of Outlaws Sprint teams to have an opportunity to watch both us and
the late models for three days this week. The late models really put on a
great show and I think it’s a pretty cool deal. It will be a challenge for
us though, as the track is going to change a lot over the course of not
only each night, but from day to day. We’re really going to have to stay on
top of it in order to make sure our car is as good as it can be each time
it hits the track. Hopefully, we’ll have a little luck on our side and
we’ll draw good numbers for qualifying each night. Qualifying and heat race
finishes are certainly going to be key to how our
nights end. I think we’re going to have a good chance to get the win each
night. We’ll just have to bring our A-game.”
