14th annual
Trophy Cup up next for Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway
By Gary Thomas
Tulare, CA -
October 16, 2007...Coming up on November 16-17 the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway will be hosting the 14th
annual Trophy Cup and it will mark the third straight year that the event
has been held at the 1/3 mile clay oval. Last year’s Trophy Cup was one of
the most talked about events of the year and it should be no different in
2007.
The Trophy Cup is an event that started out at San Jose Speedway and has
grown to be arguably the biggest and best for winged 360 sprint cars in the
United States.
The Trophy Cup packs a $90,000 purse and the overall winner of the weekend
will be guaranteed to take home $15,000. Inverted fields and a point system
force drivers to not be content with any position they have on the track
all weekend long. To top it all off the Trophy Cup benefits the Make-A-Wish
Foundation and the Trophy Cup committee will present the fabulous
foundation with another check at this year’s event.
Sharing the announce booth for the event will be two of sprint car racing’s
finest as longtime Trophy Cup announcer Bobby Gerould
will be joined for the first time by Troy Hennig.
Thunderbowl Raceway announcer George Hague will
also be roaming the pits handling the infield announcing as he has done
each of the last two years at the Trophy Cup.
Hennig has been the full time public address
announcer at Chico’s
Silver Dollar Speedway since 1999 and has grown into being one of the best
announcers in West Coast sprint car racing. His knowledge of the sport and
smooth delivery make him one of the most popular in California.
Likewise, Gerould has been one of the top
announcers in all of sprint car racing over the last 10-15 years. He
started out in California
and has done work for TNN in the past and has handled the play by play
duties for SPEED & ESPN 2's broadcasts of the World of Outlaws Sprint
Series this year. Gerould is also the man behind
the popular website HammerdownUSA, which is a
must stop for any true sprint car or midget fan. To visit the site log onto
http://www.hammerdownusa.com
To finish off the announcing trio Hague has been part of some of the most
memorable infield interviews in recent years at the Thunderbowl
and has been around the sport for many years. Having a top notch announce
team like this will make the weekend a pleasurable one for all fans and
Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway is proud to have these gentleman handling the duties.
The 14th annual Trophy Cup will feature upwards of 65 -70 cars
battling it out over two nights of action and several former Cup champions
are expected in the field including defending champ Tim Kaeding
and four-time champ Brent Kaeding, as well as Jac Haudenschild, Ronnie Day,
Craig Stidham and Tommy Tarlton.
Other top names expected to compete will be Joey Saldana, Jason Meyers,
Shane Stewart, Jonathan Allard, Brandon Wimmer,
Roger Crockett, Brad Sweet and many, many more.
The Trophy Cup will go green on Friday night November 16 with the front gate
opening at 5 pm and tickets costing $22 for general admission bleachers
& $24 for reserved grandstands. The event will conclude on Saturday Nov
17 and tickets are $24 for general admission bleachers and $26 for reserved
grandstands. Visit http://www.thunderbowlraceway.com
to view a seating chart and then call (559)
688-0909 to reserve your tickets. Tickets will also be
available at the gate.
The Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway is located on the
Tulare County Fairgrounds at the corner of Bardsley
and K Streets in Tulare.
